Waist-to-Hip Ratio Calculator

A 30-second cardiometabolic screen, where you carry fat matters as much as how much.

Waist-to-Hip Ratio

WHO-aligned cardiometabolic risk screen

How to use this calculator

  1. Stand relaxed, exhale gently, and measure your waist at the level of your navel.
  2. Measure hip circumference at the widest part of your buttocks.
  3. Pick your gender, risk thresholds differ.
  4. Enter both values and tap calculate to read your ratio and risk band.

What is the waist-to-hip ratio?

Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is simply your waist circumference divided by your hip circumference. It reveals where on your body you store fat, and that distribution is a powerful predictor of cardiovascular and metabolic risk.

The WHO recommends WHR alongside BMI because two people at the same BMI can have very different risk profiles depending on whether their fat sits around the abdomen (apple shape) or around the hips (pear shape).

What your result means

WHO health-risk thresholds:

  • Men: below 0.90 low, 0.90-0.99 moderate, 1.0 or above high.
  • Women: below 0.80 low, 0.80-0.84 moderate, 0.85 or above high.

Abdominal (visceral) fat is metabolically active, it secretes inflammatory cytokines, drives insulin resistance, and raises blood pressure. That's why a higher WHR carries cardiovascular risk even at a normal BMI.

How WHR connects to your diet

Visceral fat responds well to dietary changes, typically faster than subcutaneous fat. Evidence-based levers: a Mediterranean-style pattern, soluble fibre (oats, legumes, vegetables), reduced added sugar and refined carbs, and 150+ minutes per week of moderate activity.

Our heart-health program is built around exactly this, reducing abdominal fat and improving lipid and blood-pressure profiles. Track WHR every 6-8 weeks to see real progress.
