About This Pose

Mayurasana is one of the oldest yoga poses, mentioned in ancient texts as the pose that "destroys all diseases." The entire body balances on the hands with elbows pressed into the abdomen. This intense pressure on the digestive organs stimulates the pancreas, liver, and spleen, making it traditionally recommended for improving digestion and managing blood sugar levels.

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to practice Mayurasana safely

  1. 1

Kneel and place hands on the floor with fingers pointing backward

  2. 2

Bring elbows together and press into the abdomen

  3. 3

Lean forward, extending one leg back, then the other

  4. 4

Engage core and shift weight forward until feet lift off

  5. 5

Body should be parallel to the floor, supported only by hands

  6. 6

    Hold for 10-30 seconds initially

  7. 7

Release by lowering feet down gently
